  • Vatican Admission: The Vatican admitted for the first time that it has a set of guidelines for what to do when priests break their celibacy vows and father children. The extremely rare confirmation from the church comes as bishops from around the world travel this week to Rome for a meeting on the child sex abuse crisis. Read more here.

  • Mega-Storm: California residents are being warned of the potential for a rare mega-storm that could last for weeks with floodwaters overwhelming cities, forming lakes in the Central Valley and Mojave Desert. Officials estimate potential damage ー both structural and economic ー at more than $725 billion across the state. Read more here.

  • RBG Back: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is expected to sit for arguments today for the first time since undergoing surgery to remove cancerous growths in her lungs in December. The court said last month that the 85-year-old justice did not show any signs of disease. Read more here.

  • Smollett Motive: Chicago police now suspect that Empire actor Jussie Smollett hired two men to stage an attack on him. It is believed Smollett was upset that a racist letter sent to the show’s studio didn’t get a bigger reaction, so he paid two acquaintances to fake the attack to look like a hate crime.   • Smollett Fallout: Empire producers are reportedly cutting Smollett’s scenes and re-writing the forthcoming season to less prominently feature the actor, as prosecutors prepare to present the case to a grand jury as early as this week. Read more here.

  • Southwest Probe: Southwest Airlines is under investigation by the FAA over how it calculates the total weight of checked bags. The year-old probe has reportedly found significant mistakes in how the airline loads luggage, which impacts how pilots determine the weight of the plane at takeoff. Read more here.

  • Shipment Zero: Amazon is going green. The company says it plans for half of its shipments to be carbon neutral by 2030. It plans deliveries via electric vans, using renewable energy and encouraging suppliers to change packaging. The plan’s been dubbed “Shipment Zero.” Read more here.

  • Malia Obama: A Facebook page reportedly belonging to Malia Obama has a cover photo that reads “Donald Trump Is President. This Is Not Normal. Donald Trump Is Evil. Don’t Be Complacent.” The page, which doesn’t appear to have been updated since 2017 ー at least publicly ー was uncovered by the Daily Mail. It includes many photos with friends and interactions with Finnegan Biden, former Vice President Joe Biden’s granddaughter. Read more here.

  • Royal Shower: Meghan Markle is reportedly in New York City today for a baby shower in her honor. The party for the Duchess of Sussex will reportedly be held at a hotel on the Upper East Side. Markle and her friends were spotted in SoHo over the weekend getting tea and macaroons. Read more here.

  • Super Snow Moon: A “super snow moon” will be in the sky today. It’s the biggest and brightest full moon of the year. While it reaches its peak this morning, at 10:54 EST, the best bet to see it is to look for it rising in the east as the sun is setting in the west. Read more here.

  • The Kiss: The sailor shown in an iconic photo kissing a woman in a nurse’s uniform in Times Square to celebrate the end of WWII has died. George Mendonsa was 95. He is survived by his wife of 70 years and their daughter. Read more here.
