  • Border Security: President Trump signaled that he will sign the border security deal reached by Republican and Democratic lawmakers that would keep the government open, but said he’s “not happy” about it. The president suggested he would “add things to” the border bill in order to fund the wall. Read more here.

  • El Chapo Verdict: Mexican drug kingpin Juan ‘El Chapo’ Guzman faces life behind bars after a New York City jury convicted him on all counts in his drug-trafficking trial. Read some of the craziest details that emerged during the trial here.

  • High-Speed Rail: California Gov. Gavin Newsom is drastically scaling back the state’s long-in-the-making plans for a high-speed train that connects San Francisco and Los Angeles. That project has been stalled since 2015 and currently has a price tag of $77 billion. Newsom said he wants to focus on a rail link for the state’s central valley instead. Read more here.

  • Mark Kelly: Retired NASA astronaut Mark Kelly announced he is running for Senate in Arizona as a Democrat to finish the late John McCain’s term. Kelly is the husband of former Rep. Gabby Giffords, who survived a mass shooting in 2011. He launched his campaign with a video in which Giffords is prominently featured. See it here.

  • Whole Foods Prices: Amazon is raising prices on hundreds of items at Whole Foods that had been cut when Amazon bought the grocer in 2017. Prices for things like diapers and detergent are increasing everywhere because of rising commodity costs. Read more here.

  • Valentine’s Day: Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Whole Foods has one of the best deals for roses. Prime members can get two dozen roses for $20. Read more here.

  • Have You Slept in a Ford Lately?: Ford has developed a bed meant to keep mattress hogs in their place. The automaker used its lane-keeping technology to determine if one person crosses over the center of the mattress, and a system of conveyor belts is activated to put the bed hog back on their side.   • Best in Show: Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show went to a wire fox terrier named King. Some fans were disappointed the top honor didn’t go to Burns, a dachshund. Read more here.

  • Last Call: Last Call with Carson Daly is ending its 17-year late-night run on NBC. Daly said he wants to focus on his hosting duties at both the Today show and The Voice. Read more here.

  • Lotto Mask: A lottery winner in Jamaica wore a Scream mask while claiming his winnings ー equal to more than a million U.S. dollars ー in order to hide his identity. Read more here.

  • Peppa Effect: Parents are taking to social media to say their children have adopted British accents after watching Peppa Pig, the popular cartoon import from the UK. Toddlers around the country are now pronouncing “tomatoes” as “to-mah-tos,” and calling their moms “mummy.” Read more here.
