House Speaker Nancy Pelosi won't give in to President Trump's push to get impeached ー and that drives him crazy, said Mika Brzezinski, host of MSNBC's Morning Joe.
"When it comes to Nancy Pelosi, he's screwed. He's never going to get what he wants out of her. He's desperate to be impeached. He's desperate to be put through the impeachment process so he can play the victim, and she's just not as dumb as he thinks," Brzezinski told Cheddar.
The very public feud between Pelosi and Trump ratcheted up this week after Trump walked out of a Wednesday meeting with top Democrats about upgrading U.S. infrastructure. Trump said he would not negotiate with Democrats until they called off investigations into his personal and business finances.
Pelosi and Trump then exchanged insults on Thursday. Trump referred to her as "Crazy Nancy," a dig at her mental clarity, whereas Pelosi suggested the president needs an intervention, the Washington Post reported.
"He's very used to thinking that women are not his intellectual equal, which is hysterical on so many levels, because he's been proven not to be the brightest bulb," Brzezinski said.
Democrats are divided on starting impeachment proceedings on the president. Despite a growing number of calls to start the process, Pelosi has maintained the Democrat-controlled House should hold back. On Thursday, two Democratic aides revealed why: Pelosi thinks Trump wants Democrats to try to impeach him to drum up sympathy from his base, NBC reported. Brzezinski suggested Trump is starting to crack under the pressure of Democratic scrutiny.
"This is beyond in the ditch behavior ー this is a desperate man. And [Pelosi's] got him right between the eyes," Brzezinski said.
The White House did not immediately respond to Cheddar's request for comment.
Brzezinski and co-author Daniela Pierre-Bravo are on a media blitz to promote their latest book, "Earn It! Know Your Value and Grow Your Career, in Your 20s and Beyond." Pierre-Bravo was working alongside Brzezinski on the set of Morning Joe, when Brzezinski said she noticed her incredible drive and became fascinated by her story. Pierre-Bravo was an undocumented immigrant, living in Ohio, when she moved to New York and pulled herself up through the ranks of the media industry.
"I knew this was going to be the partnership for a really successful book," Brzezinski said.
"Earn It!" represented a chance for Pierre-Bravo to share her story and for the two to help young women get ahead in the workplace.
"This whole thing started out from a pitch that I made Mika ... about wanting to create access for other young people because it was a struggle that I knew very well. I didn't have professional mentors, I didn't have a way in the door or a pathway ー at that time I was undocumented. So I wanted to create a road map for other young people," Pierre-Bravo said.
